Erasure is a British synth-pop duo formed in 1985 by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell. They have been one of the most popular electro-pop bands of all time, selling over 25 million albums worldwide. Erasure has delivered some of the greatest hits during their musical career, including “A Little Respect,” “Sometimes,” and “Stop.”
Fans were excited to hear that Erasure was due to embark on a UK tour in October 2021. Unfortunately, it was later announced that they would be forced to cancel their tour due to an unexpected medical issue with singer Andy Bell.
The cancellation of “The Neon Tour” has left fans disappointed and wondering what happened. It’s crucial for us to understand everything about this unfortunate turn so we can come up with ways to help support Andy Bell while he recovers.
What Happened?
On September 6th, Erasure took to Twitter, informing fans that the upcoming tour had been put on hold indefinitely following doctor’s advice after Andy tested positive for COVID-19:
“Due to unforeseen medical circumstances arising from his condition post-COVID-19 [Andy]’s doctors have advised him against any more performances at this time.”
While recovering from COVID-19 symptoms takes immense patience and resilience, it appears it might not be only what led them towards taking necessary action against touring further as there isn’t any direct relationship between post-COVID symptoms alone leading towards cancelling tours in most cases.
Fans all around expressed love & concern as messages started emerging across twitter posts right after this announcement made its way online. The band also secured refunds or helped exchange tickets promptly without levying additional charges – which seems like a great gesture given these times wherein many sectors continue struggling financially due to pandemic disruptions.
Post-COVID Syndrome
It’s quite well-known now among the general public that contracting Covid-19 leads you through possibly days – sometimes even weeks – away from regular life, regardless of how severe or mild your symptoms are. Other than the series of physical symptoms that come with covid-19 treatment can be harsh on one’s immunity as well.
One thing’s for sure: having a coronavirus infection is not a walk in the park even if you have no pre-existing illnesses and lead an otherwise healthy lifestyle. It has been recorded by several medical associations globally that individuals may face Post-COVID syndrome- where they might have new, ongoing health problems even after recovering.
As per reports from trusted sources such as Mayo Clinic’s webpage which talks about ‘Long-haul COVID-19’, it can lead to combined syndromes like brain fog, fatigue & trouble breathing that may continue weeks – or even months – after their initial Covid diagnosis. They might require extended recovery periods while dealing with side-effects appearing post-recovery.
The Role Of International Travel
Going back to 2020 mid-March when countries worldwide began announcing lockdowns across numerous sectors were badly hit including the entertainment industry notable among them being live events/music shows worldwide suspending or cancelling deadlines outrightly due to social distancing protocols formulated amid pandemic fears everywhere.
Individuals who travel internationally incur higher risks than those staying local. While Erasure got through five phenomenal ‘socially distanced’ concerts throughout July both in London & Bristol promoter Live Nation decided postponing tour dates till October instead citing border restrictions at this point between US & UK preventing bands/executives from travelling ahead comfortably just yet which hinted towards COVID containment measures still keeping up seeing no relief in sight any soon because there were new strains emerging too often eventually making tours more risky propositions altogether demanding cancelation over rescheduling under current circumstances unfortunately reminiscent of global situations last year.
What Now?
Fans will undoubtedly express sadness given popular consensus; however, Andy Bell seems determined to get better and hopes to return his all-time favorites sooner rather than later since he loves performing live music for fans around the world.
Post-covid medical problems have emerged as a reality, and it does not discriminate when a danger awaits one’s immune system. Thankfully, support came quickly for fans demanding refunds – and we can hope that this goodwill turns to widespread compassion towards those who suffer from post-COVID symptoms even beyond Erasure’s national & international fanbase.
2022 seems like the year of comeback; indeed many performers are going ahead with future tours across multiple locations globally halted during pandemic times due to its spread but taking into account all necessary precautions where health is given priority over anything else. With vaccines out and lockdowns lifted, fans worldwide can look forward to seeing their favorite acts amongst them Erasure once again on stages around the globe soon enough!
