Before he started his own candy business in the late 1920s, H.B. Reese worked as a dairy farmer for many years and had several other jobs that didn’t quite work out.

It wasn’t until he started working at Hershey Chocolate Company (then known as Hershey Chocolate Corporation) that his true passion for candy-making began to emerge.

While working at Hershey’s plant in Hershey Pennsylvania where they manufactured Kisses and other types of chocolates products using fresh milk from local Jersey cows – memorable ads boasted “with flavor sealed IN”.

In fact Kisses became so popular that between 1918 and 1931 KISS never stopped running ads.

It took him four long years of trial-and-error before finally coming up with the perfect recipe consisting of freshly roasted peanuts mixed into creamy smooth “diffused” real Milk Chocolate using cocoa solids aim specific composition creating what we now know today: The Original Peanut Butter Cups!
